just a quicky... bre posted about cute things that quys do (or should!), and one in particular really resonated for some reason...
i recently discovered - totally in opposition to everything i've ever thought about myself, and my attraction to men - that i like a man who...
"5. Likes nice things: Truth be told, I notice a nice pair of shoes before I notice a cute boy. Start down, then look up. There is nothing better than a guy who appreciates nice things, and won’t judge me for a splurge here or there. I try very hard to not be cheap with my money, I try to be generous. You will never find me pining over a drink or cab fare here or there, and I would have a hard time dating a boy who does. It’s just money, enjoy it, and pamper yourself occasionally. And please don’t have sticks in your apartment. Living things, boys, living things."
this is one of many things i discovered about myself... turns out i can like a man who is everything i hated. i thought that name brands were foolish; a nice place to live didn't matter; a man who liked labels was egotistical and shallow; spending money couldn't bring you an experience.
i'll admit - i was wrong. so so wrong.
name brands can be foolish - yes; a place to live is nice as long as you love it - yes; labels can be egotistical and shallow - yes; money does not bring you happiness - yes.
but.
name brands can also save you money in the long run; you need to love where you come home to, and that place could be a condo in the middle of the city, as long as you make it your own; people who like labels are not automatically egotistical and shallow; and money should be spent on an experience, or you could miss it.
admitted - wrong.
and guess what - it sucks to discover lots of things about yourself - only to find this self discovery was almost purely in vain.
nevertheless, bre hit the nail on the head.

"We come to love not by finding a perfect person,
but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly."
- Sam Keen, from To Love and Be Loved
edit: unfortunately for me, the last guy who messed with my heart did almost all of the things that bre has posted about in her 'awesome things' series. sucks.
