This morning I was on the subway, and I saw a young man - black, tattooed, quite easy to roll your eyes towards - stand up, and offer his seat to a woman - maybe 50, not frail looking, just… normal - and it warmed my heart. Literally at the moment before he stood up, I was thinking about teaching my kids manners… offering seats to those who needs them, honoring the "first come, first serve" (standing in line… it's a great concept)… and then this happened. I knew today would be a good day.
and, because who doesn't like local goodies... Right in the heart of kensington, kid icarus is a print shop which sells hand printed art, posters, cards, gift wrap items, tshirts, toys and more. The thought of buying a card for $5 urked me, but then I remembered that any time I've succumbed to the pressure of buying a card instead of making one… whether due to time, or location… I paid that much. I'd rather have something interesting, and local!
They are backed by studio number nineteen which is a screen printing shop in the back of the store where some of the products are produced for the store, but the emphasis is on custom printing.
