This weekend was one of the best I have had in a long long time. Not only was wonderful alex gracious enough to cover my shift - therefore providing me with a whole weekend work free!! - but I had few plans, and wonderful friends to get to hang with.
Thursday night, greig and I hung out with some people I had never met, for his boss' birthday dinner. I arrived late (oops!) but with silver shoes, who cares, right? The night was filled with unbelievable guacamole, movie talk, a history lesson on passover, and wonderful people who I was happy to have been able to hang out with! I got to chat a bit with aaron (a guy whose school album greig is working on), and his lady friend. Cool kats. I'm totally into them.
Friday I - GASP! - slept in. it was glorious. I slept until 11am, and woke up to the sun shining in my window. I love life. Went for a great run, had a smoothie, and relaxed while watching tv online. I was full of sloth. On God's weekend. I'm a horrible person. I met up with some friend - old and new - for a fantastic thai dinner. A friend of mine who I have stayed close with since high school, and two other friends who I regret losing touch with - though time slips away from us all. It was so nice to see them, and to get to chat about the old, the new, and the funny.* headed home, and hung out with greigoire. Lame. I know. :)
Saturday, I made sure to put on my spring jacket (despite the wind - and God's clear signs that it's not spring yet), and my camera, and greig and I went for a great walk down and around bloor st. fresh falafals, starbucks, and a little san pallegrino never hurt a soul. Greig went to work on his project, and I just… hung out. I think I half napped - is this possible? Saturday night, I got to spend one of the best nights of my life with some good friends - as a form of quasi "we are family" Easter event, a few friends gathered to just… hang. I ended up in a basement, with one of my favourite people in the world, for most of the night. Heart to hearts with a good friend are never a bad thing. I love elizabeth, as she consistantly reminds me of what is good, strong, and amazing about this world. She just won the deans award for music at humber college - and I can't think of anyone who deserves it more.
Sunday I drove home to have lunch with my oldest friend chantel. I was maid of honour in her wedding almost a year ago - we had a much deserved catch up. And lots of food. We missed eachother - and I am ok with speaking on her behalf :). Her sister is about to have a baby, and I am going to be a 'fake' aunt again!! I can't WAIT! I had dinner last night with my sister, mom and dad. It reminded me how much I miss home. My sister is a young (not smaller - this is an important fact) version of me. My dad is an older, and biologically male version of me. My mom is an older, much wiser version of me. Love them.
My sister made me a kick ass quilt with all my old tshirts (I'll post a picture when I get home).
Best. Weekend. Ever.
*aside: I love hanging with old friends. There is little pretext, as all they know of you is the younger version. "what have you been up to since high school?" is the question, and you have an invariable blank canvas on which to paint the past 6 years. Detail is not necessary - unless you want to add it - and you get to remember the important, and best parts about life. It's great. We should be more in tune with these things. Thank you katie and ellen for giving me this opportunity.
