earth hour and it's repercussions

i find myself torn over earth hour... similar to the way i find myself torn over many shows of the green trend that has hit the world - are the hip to jive going to bail on being responsible once acid wash jeans are back in style?

so earth hour. i was able to see the good, when my co-worker alex reminded me of the wonder that is 1 hour without power. candle lit conversations, no tv, stars in the toronto sky, a quiet calm that one can only experience in north ontario... or in toronto during earth hour.

my inner critic then thinks... then what? after the hour passes, people turn on their lights - and more importantly their tvs - and stop having conversations. they forget the reason for their one hour of darkness (both literal and symbollic). they feel good about themselves because of the one whole hour they spent in the dark... and then go on living their lives even more in the dark than before.

my heart hurts for people who just. don't. get. it.
the green revolution - are we encouraging it?
