two sides

so today is another day at work - i am currently splitting my time between the toronto group retirement office (where i just started), and the hamilton group retirement office (where i have been since february). being in two offices that are EXTREMELY different allows me to see the things that one could appreciate in both styles of work environment. toronto is a very large office, with about 100 employees in my office alone. i barely know anyone's name, and this is NOT a product of my not trying - there are just too many people! i am meeting and seeing a new person every single day, and it's causing extreme confusion. not to mention i am terrible at remembering names.
on the other hand, at the hamilton office, there are a total of 7 employees (8 if you include me). today, the only male in the office brought us all flowers - and the feminist in me made sure he also put one on his own desk. would you get that sort of service in an office of 100? probably not. unless you make a friend.
on the other hand, i'm learning that i sort of like being anonymous. i like doing my own thing, not having to talk to a lot of people, and being able to do some research and thinking on the side. that sort of thing can't happen in a small office where people can see what you're doing at all times.
i have exactly 6 days left of work at hamilton. i guess i have to take it all in - then i move downtown, and start my full time life as a torontonian.
i better get some new shoes.
