my weekend in summary

this weekend was a different kind of one - i don't typically work on saturdays, but was called in for an event, so had a weird weekend of working on days i don't normally, not working on days i normally do, and getting the chance to visit some awesome events, and sales that were in town.
after work, and the obakki sample sale, i met carmen and jeff for a 'goodbye carmen, we're so excited you have an apartment, so we can come visit you and you don't have to sleep on an air mattress any longer!' dinner at tacofino commissary. it was delicious - as expected - and i got to stare at this amazing light installation the whole time. perfect; we hosted an amazing event on the saturday, the end of teacher training for one yoga - it was an awesome and inspiring night of great food, yoga talk, dancing, and a bit of shopping; oh, and a great dj; when we woke up sunday, there was snow on the peaks for the first time! i guess this means winter in vancouver... crazy.
hope the weekend was awesome for everyone!

my weekend in summary

my parents spent 4 days visiting... and hence, my complete and total disregard for everyone, and everything else. we hiked, ate, drank, laughed so hard our faces hurt, and i just felt an immense amount of love while they were here. being away from them (and the rest of my family) is the worst part about vancouver.
while hiking through lynn valley, my dad was incredibly impressed by these giant leaves. leaf to scale... scale of his head; the roots in the trails there are beautiful. i can't get enough of how they reach out from the trunks of the trees; the trees also seem to go on forever - i always feel like i'm in jurassic park, or ferngully; this waterfall is so amazing - just a little one, but it's perfectly framed by trees. i love it; we spent a night at the vancouver urban winery, tasting flights of wine, and eating plates of cheese and meats; it also happened to be open mic night. amazing; oh. and more cheese; the next day, we walked through kits - after a drive through UBC. the sun was amazing - and this guy was sunbathing while reading. not sure it was that warm, but, you know; i am only reminded that my dad is enormous when i see photos of him next to fairly tall humans like my mom and jeff, and realize how much higher into the atmosphere he reaches; a calm evening - beer, and bike videos in bed; on sunday, remy came to my rescue - i cried when my parents left, and my colleague thuy brough her dog into work - remy. he clearly knew, and sat with me while i worked; he's a bit of a guard dog, that guy. we love him.
hope everyone had an amazing weekend!

things i'm in love with

ok. acknowledgment: i am behind on my blogging. it's been a bit nutty with all weekend courses, work events i've been running, meetings with new stores for jewelry, AND my parents are here visiting... so i'm spending all my spare time with them. so blog posts will follow.
in the meantime. some things i'm in love with this week.

this article on signs being ladylike is not your forte - i should add a disclaimer to this, being that everyone has their own definition of 'class' and things we see as 'ladylike' are totally a social construct. with that being said, i can relate to many of these things... all the while, i can still put on the niceness every once in a while.

this video of the rick owens fashion show. i've been delayed in posting.... but it can't go without a nod (or a scowl, in keeping with the show), as it's the way fashion should be moving.

sometimes you just need a good throwback of en vogue.

that's it for today - because more importantly, i'm going to go for a nice hike with my parents, and then drink some wine. so there.
have a great weekend everyone!

i spent the weekend in a seminar called 'landmark' which has some interesting connotations connected with it, but which turned out to be incredibly valuable, and useful in the context of both work, and things i didn't think it would ever impact. i spent friday through sunday - all day each day - in seminars with strangers, and therefore didn't have a huge chance to do much else. this was my weekend.
beautiful salads made by chef mikaela in an evening event at work - for some super awesome people we just wanted to get in one place; the chef explaining the meal and some of the rad people we brought into the space; vancouver has been getting some wicked fog lately. i think it's completely and utterly beautiful; jeff's birthday was this past week, and so i met up with some friends of his who were bowling after my seminar.... turns out, they are all the same person. white shirts, black jeans, toques on almost everyone; the skyline, during a walk in my last break before the seminar closed up.
hope everyone was able to explore some things that are wonderful about their lives this weekend.

my weekend in summary

this weekend was a bit of a tough one for me, as i missed a very good friend's wedding, it was my first thanksgiving away from home, and jeff was at home, and i had the apartment to myself.. it was a rough one all around. nevertheless, i managed to fill the weekend with some awesomes.
i've been working on doing yoga everyday - for both my mental and physical health... and i'm falling in love with it totally; we had the amazing lizzy karp of rain city chronicles in to the space, for a great talk on storytelling. i love listening to lizzy - she's always amazingly inspiring; while exploring the city, i found an amazing and unbelievable used book store. i'm in love; and, of course, no 'saturday' is complete without a lucky's donut, and a parallel 49 coffee; after work on sunday, emily and i ventured over to the new brewery - brassneck brewery - to try out some new beer... as well as the food truck outside, serving amazingly wonderfulfilipino street food. we were in heaven - and enjoyed entirely our friendship thanksgiving; the amazing artwork on the walls at brassneck; i'm totally absorbed into 'in cold blood', and tearing through it. nothing better than an amazing book, a perfect cup of tea, and sun; carmen and i spent monday evening eating whole foods hot bar, that was filled with thanksgiving style wares - including a miniature pumpkin pie for desert.
i truly hope everyone's thanksgiving weekend was one to be thankful for.
