my parents spent 4 days visiting... and hence, my complete and total disregard for everyone, and everything else. we hiked, ate, drank, laughed so hard our faces hurt, and i just felt an immense amount of love while they were here. being away from them (and the rest of my family) is the worst part about vancouver.
while hiking through
lynn valley, my dad was incredibly impressed by these giant leaves. leaf to scale... scale of his head; the roots in the trails there are beautiful. i can't get enough of how they reach out from the trunks of the trees; the trees also seem to go on forever - i always feel like i'm in
jurassic park, or
ferngully; this waterfall is so amazing - just a little one, but it's perfectly framed by trees. i love it; we spent a night at the
vancouver urban winery, tasting flights of wine, and eating plates of cheese and meats; it also happened to be open mic night. amazing; oh. and more cheese; the next day, we walked through kits - after a drive through UBC. the sun was amazing - and this guy was sunbathing while reading. not sure it was that warm, but, you know; i am only reminded that my dad is enormous when i see photos of him next to fairly tall humans like my mom and jeff, and realize how much higher into the atmosphere he reaches; a calm evening - beer, and bike videos in bed; on sunday, remy came to my rescue - i cried when my parents left, and my colleague thuy brough her dog into work - remy. he clearly knew, and sat with me while i worked; he's a bit of a guard dog, that guy. we love him.
hope everyone had an amazing weekend!
