music for a wednesday

just some songs i'm really digging right now... suited to the mood i'm in, or if not, the mood i want to be in. these are some goodies i've been jamming pretty hard to lately.

i can't get enough of this song.... and a remix is all i needed to give me an excuse to put it on my playlist once (or twice) more. this remix by the weeknd.

kendrick kills his verse in this song. calls out for rap to step up the game. can't wait to see what the responses are to this.... can't wait for all the guys he calls to (at 5:07 onward), to respond with rhymes. i LOVE me a rap game. especially since tons of these guys have already responded - saying they have rhymes coming to address his reach. amazing. the end of this year will be a great one in rap.

and last but not least. BANKS. i love her so much. good mellow song to finish it off.

what have you been listening to lately?

my weekend in summary

this weekend was filled... and despite my body fighting some sort of cold or flu, we were out, kayaking, climbing and kahoting (kahots? is that an action? whatever... we did it).
baby chicks at the PNE; baby piglets. my fave; fair rides are sometimes worth it; surprise going away party for a friend at work - with false presents and everything; meat and cheese platters at salt tasting room; the view from a friend's place where we spent saturday afternoon drinking smoothies and pear vodka; the plant library in his home is enough to make me want to create my own greenhouse; dinner at a smokehouse; we're classy - and we like the 'value wine' section; deep cove for an adventure day; kayaking with a view; a little starfish with a small space to call home; a small oasis on the hike; mount seymour, the way down
hope everyone had a great long weekend!

holiday monday

it's one of my favourite days. the labour day holiday weekend has always been one of my favourite ones, as it's the most beautiful temperature, and people are getting the most out of their summers.
i'm enjoying a workday. i hope everyone had a great long weekend!

about

the things we experience each and every day shape who we are... or we shape them to move throughout the world in such a way that we have changed them. what do i do with my time? experience.
life is not about accumulation, figuration and expiration -
it's about consultation, admiration, and inspiration.
i'm jamie. digital lead for lululemon lab by day - social activist/budding academic and creative force by night. after a large amount of time spent in acedemia, and a specifically tumultuous year in an international development post graduate degree, i needed a mental break from all the hypocrisy that was what i thought i loved, and felt like I hated. i started in toronto ON, and am now centered in Vancouver BC, canada. i'm a natural born transient, and have stayed true to that for many years - because of school, work, family, etc. i am not the easiest person to get along with - i'm stubborn, lack the ability to keep in touch, am argumentative, obnoxious, and abbrasive - so my close friends are the most patient and wonderful people ever. i'm lucky to have every single one of them in my life. it is on those amazing people who i spend the time, effort, and imagination that i believe it takes to be a true friend. they see the person who enjoys sending postcards from nowhere, giving presents when they are relevant, and giving a phone call when i'm just thinking of someone.
i'm a neo hippy - if it can be so - selectitarian, feminist, activist, and lover of all things creative. freddie mercury is my dream man, and if macdonalds created a vegan big mac, i would be first in line. i'm a failed extrovert, and i - like many people i'm sure - wish i had more money, if only to be able to have long phone conversations with the people i love. that, and to be able to afford to simply study for a living.
these are my ramblings - they are non-sensical, often inspired by my day-to-day life, and usually involve some sort of rant. there is rarely a rhyme or reason for the things i post, other than i enjoy writing, beautiful (handmade) things, and sharing with friends (both those i spend time with, and those in the online world, whom i've never met). for more about my inner workings, check out my '25' series.
enjoy

things i'm in love with

it's friiiiiiidayyyyy - which means only one thing. things i love and want to share from the internet this week!
(that's not true - that's not the only thing friday means. that's a rather self important thing to have said. friday means lots of things to lots of people. like, for example, this friday means a day off for me, my sister in town, and some galavanting. hopefully some juicetruck juice since i feel like i haven't eaten my vegetables in a week, and it means the beginning of a long weekend for lots of people! sorry about that broad statement).
this week.... things i'm in love with.

i hope this becomes the standard for wedding videos - amazing. but with more pharrell and less robin thicke. maybe adding some daft punk too. everytime i watch this, i am hit with an overwhelming sense of happiness. the smile won't leave me alone!

love anderson cooper's commentary on pat robertson's commentary on gay people with 'the stuff' (that is, AIDs). and if you watch further, you'll see men should move to saudi arabia to beat their wives, men being allowed to cheat on their wives, and also yoga is related to demonic worship. (and in case the sarcasm isn't translating well via writing - it is my belief that robertson is a delusional strange old men).

this amazing letter to kanye west from the association of french bakers about his being god of the croissants. and the accompanying GIF from eargazm. genius.
"We could easily let this water pass under the bridge, as they say, but we take your lyrics very seriously. From the other lines in the song, we have come to understand that you may in fact be a “God.” Yet if this were the case — and we, of course, take you at your word — we wonder why you do not more frequently employ your omnipotence to change time and space to better suit your own personal whims. For us mere mortals, we must wait the time required for the croissant to come to perfect fruition, but as a deity, you can surely alter the bread’s molecular structure faster than the speed of light, no? And with your omniscience, perhaps you have something to teach us about the perfect croissant. We await your guidance and insights."
i repeat. genius.

and! my fave juice truck is hiring.... if you're into cold pressed juice, having fun, and being super healthy (and seeing me. a LOT.) then get in touch with the juice truck folks. and bathe in juice for days! (don't actually bathe in it. that's disgusting).

finally, some music from MØ feat. Diplo – XXX 88. a perfect weekend song. for realsies. love diplo (EVERYTHING about diplo... and MØ adds a perfect track of voice and beats.

that's all she wrote. i'm going to finish this pack of caramel chocolate chip rice cakes, and head out onto the town. with ma sista. for the weekend. happy friday (and long weekend) all!
