my weekend in summary

this weekend was lots of things with lots of people, and lots of food. i'm finally starting to settle in a groove where i get MY kind of weekends out of this city. and that's a great thing.

thursday night celebration dinners with work friends - for getting through (on of) the busiest stretch(es) of the year at Cuchillo; birthday churros for megan; a long walk after dinner for handmixed cocktails at jean's place; the view of our apartment building from the park - towering over everything; outdoor bbq's are unparalleled; the boys walking wilbur down to the water; oh right - i stand up paddle boarded. standing up, no falling, no lessons or anything. nailed it; i wish i could describe the amount of balance it took to take this photo; jeff has a lot more paddle muscle than i do - but look at that city!; dinner before a double horror feature with cole - dinner at la casita, and then a long night of being scared. the conjouring (great movie), and you're next (not great movie); some goal setting on a sunday morning - i've never been good at goals, and always set them too high, with no realistic way to attain them. needless to say, i've had a lot more practice lately... and i think i'm liking it; sushi dinner with a ton of friends, planned without my knowledge, when my sister flew into town and surprised me at work. there was screaming. and crying. elated.
hope everyone has an amazing week - mine will be packed with fun stuff in and around work, while my sister is visiting for the next 10 days!

so.

my sister turned up at my work today. she had flown across the country to surprise me. i screamed. i cried. i was ecstatic.

basically.... i'm not posting today (other than this).
sister time. homesickness is easier when your sister surprises you from the other side of the country at work.

a moment and a Great Perhaps

"'so this guy,' i said, standing in the doorway of the living room. 'Francois Rabelais. He was this poet. And his last works were 'I go to seek a Great Perhaps.' That's why I'm going. So I don't have to wait until I die to start seeking a Great Perhaps.'
And that quieted them. I was after a Great Perhaps, and they knew as well as I did that I wasn't going to find it with the likes of Will and Marie. I sat back on the couch, between my mom and my dad, and my dad put his arm around me, and we stayed there like that, quiet on the couch together, for a long time, until it seemed ok to turn on the TV, and then we ate artichoke dip for dinner and watched the History Channel, and as going-away parties go, it certainly could have been worse."

things i'm in love with

happy friday! i get fridays off currently, so i've been spending my fridays sleeping in, and recovering from the week prior... and wandering around the hood. today was a visit to the library, and then some 'research' into the best vietnamese sub in my area (i live in the best area for someone who's obsessed with asian food). anyways... fun things from this week.

north west has finally been revealed. and adorable vibes ensue. who would've thunk??

in more revealing news... miley cyrus is actually just justin bieber in disguise.

this incredible music video.... i hope music videos NEVER stop being made...

not surprisingly, canada makes the list of the top 10 places to be born, pulled together by the economist intelligence unit. factors such geography, overall happiness, cultural practices and government policies were all taken into consideration.... such a great reminder of what we are blessed with in this country (when it's so easy to be bogged down with all the things that drive us crazy on a daily basis).

things we've learnt from children's books.... including my favourite book of all time, the giver.

i know, i know. i'm a sucker for jenna marbles. i don't care if you now hate her, but i love every second of her. and, when she talks about degrees and not having a job, there's a special part of my heart that feels like we may actually be the same person (though, i care less about spending time on makeup - aka. i have no dedication - and she has the confidence to be a dancer at a club. and she has a killer body. so. there's that). nevertheless. we both have multiple degrees lying around, and she has come up with some ingenious ways for us multiple degree'ers to use our frames outrageously expensive pieces of gilded paper. "i sell my textbooks on ebay" and "smells like loans".

happy friday everyone - have a great weekend!
