leaving on a jet plane (ish)

today. i leave for vacation. FINALLY. after 2 cancelled trips, and a looooooooooong wait from my last official vacay, i am flying out to vancouver for a nearly 2 week trip - visits with cole, lots of writing in parks, meetings with new and current colleagues (both work related, and hopeful soon connections!), lots and lots and LOTS of food, hiking, exploring, sleeping, reading, party hats and dance parties galore, and catching up on alone time.... i. can't. wait.
meanwhile, i've written some posts for my absence - just leaving you with some things i've been digging lately. not as in depth as you know me for typically, and no flat out introspective posts (those will likely come upon my return from van), but just some stuff to peruse in my absence. one a day! and sorry... you'll have to live sans 'weekend in summary' for just one week!
and so, i bid you, adieu.

my (bachelor party) weekend in summary

this weekend was a bit of a write off. between a later night than anticipated friday, and then a full day (and into sunday) bachelor party, things were a bit..... nuts.
however. it's my understanding that what happens at a bachelor party, stays at a bachelor party. so this is as much as I can share:
front row tickets to a jays game – for my visit with alex; a lazy Friday afternoon; mill street organic and catching up on walking dead; our long drive to forest – already raising the roof; bachelor party intimidation; early day volleyball; trolley tractor ride!; joshy and his sunglasses; field photo shoots; leaving parts of the party behind; belly flop competition; poker day; downtown grand bend in jean short cutoffs; lots of arm wrestling; the morning after.
thursday: i left work to meet my friend steph's mom and sister - her sister is getting married, and i'm creating her wedding jewelry, and her mom's. we took some time to pick out pieces for them (my first time having client's with me to shop - it was tough!), and then i met my dear friend alex. in short, i got to spend the night with alex, who has just moved home from the native reserve that she has been teaching on for years, in time to move to thailand to teach. we got a good night together, filled with burritos, and a jays game, that i somehow managed to procure third row tickets to. amazing. we headed home after, and got in bed.
friday: after work i got my haircut, and then just wandered home. i spent the last moments of sun reading outside, then while making jewelry for the aforementioned wedding, i caught up on the walking dead, and had a beer. i then went to 1602 to have a drink with elliott - bartender supreme - and headed home to sleep.
saturday: bachelor party. since i can't share much, what i can say was it involved: lots of driving - listening to podcasts of the onion and radio lab; lots of volleyball; lots of bellyflops; lots of chicken fights; lots of arm wrestling (jake prefers to do so at bars, without a shirt); lots of poker; LOTS of food; lots of bar hopping; lots of dancing on stages; and lots of other funness and irresponsible behaviour that you can only find yourself in at a bachelor party. some things i also noted in my blackberry for future reading/writing about: 'yea, the exit is JUST aafter london - it gives london the old reach around' (remember - weekend of men); 'go sabres? fuckin' idiot' (bumper stickers that were apparently not well received); 'he's in there - dave's my buddy' (don't know the context of this one).
sunday: we all woke up, had some gatorade, rehashed the night, and then nate, dave and i headed home. after a quick stop to catch up with brianne (nate's wife), dave and i drove back to toronto. i literally spent the remainder of the day packing for vancouver (yay!!) and watching the rest of season 1 of girls. and laying in bed.
i hope everyone had a less painful, and far more productive weekend than i. 2 more sleeps until vancouver!
thanks boys for including me - and thanks kim for putting up with us in your wonderful fiancee's life!

dance dance (with my fave men)

this weekend, i get to attend one of my best friends in the whole world's bachelor party (much to the surprise of many of the dudes who are attending, i'm sure). i have the honour of being one of his groomsmen, and standing beside him when he marries one of the raddest chicks i know.
SO. this weekend i'm spending doing some haircutting, and then heading down to his parents farm, where me and 20 men (i use the term loosely) are going to celebrate the shit out of jake's upcoming nuptials to that girl.
so, i get to hang with these two studs, and a few more fellas.
jake - prepare for dance party usa (but the canadian, farm based version).
have a great weekend everyone!

just a summer checklist

now that we're into july.... i feel like it's truly summer. it reminds me of school being out, and summer camps starting. the heat is finally picking up, and we're in summer clothes. for the first time today, i wore long pants and a 3/4 length sleeve sweater, and thought, 'i'm an idiot - it's summer!' so! that means time for me to make my customary summer to do list...
this summer's to do list includes some of my faves.
a vancouver adventure in a week (yay!); cottage trips as much as possible - to escape the city; farmers market adventures as much as possible to avoid grocery stores all summer (fresh produce!); weekend trips to see friends, and to getaway - near and far; enjoying many varieties of mixed cocktails in my lovely backyard oasis. needed; hopscotch. i want, i need; AND a letter writing club avec my dear friend steph. make our own, or join another - i don't care (anyone want to be part?). and photos. lots and lots and lots of photos.
it's going to be a GREAT and busy summer!
