mexican madness

my weekend in summary (lots of z's)

this weekend was like a true to form, tourist in toronto weekend. and i loved everysecond of it. filled with super high culture rap battles, and some art at the AGO, when sunday night came, i felt like i did toronto justice this weekend.
creating; rap battlez with sister kelly; a jaunt on the east end; remerchandising on new branding; pulling together a gift for a friend… long overdue; new pieces… building for pop up sale in march; knittaz day with lady friends; some help; serious biznass; the ladiez (photo from erin)
friday: after work, my sister met me downtown, and we drove into my old hood - bloor west - for an appt i had. she wandered into the yellow griffin and i met her there for food and drinks after i was done. we then headed back home, where we had a drink with pat (landlord/friend) and mike, and then we bundled up, and walked up to bloor where we had our sights set on rap battlez at comedy bar. it was incredible, and amazing, and i heavily encourage everyone i know to go witness it. next one is feb 22nd. check it out. for real. once all was done, we wandered back home, and crashed pretty quickly. it was a late night!
saturday: woke up to the alarm, in time to get downtown. kelly and i packed up, got in the car, and met jeff downtown. jeff and i bought tickets to the AGO, and then had a very healthy, very quick mcd's breakfast before heading back to the frida exhibit at the AGO. it was, as i expected, stunning. and i'm glad - though i hesitated over spending the $25 - i decided it was worth it to adventure on the last weekend. i would have been heartbroken to miss it. we spent another hour or so wandering the rest of the AGO, including seeing the michael snow exhibit which was partially interactive, and great. then, a quick sushi lunch at one of my faves, sushi queen (please, no spouting sushi dishonour - it's cheap and quick and low level sushi, but i love it), and back home. we had a 2 hour nap (totally exhausted - have i mentioned i haven't been sleeping well lately?), and then showered, watched a 6 feet under episode, and got dressed for dinner. went over to wallflower on dundas where jeff had a burger, potato wedges and kale slaw, and i had some fried quinoa and kale slaw. totally amazingly delicious - as seems to be their consistent trend. we then wandered downtown to see flight .. which was long, but good. despite the 4 drunk kids who talked and laughed the whole movie (am i getting old?). then home, to bed.
sunday: woke up in time for mexican madness at sneaky dees, with friends (now including babies!), and delicious mexican wonder food. jeff caught a ride home with jill from burlington, and i picked up some last minute supplies (more knitting needles!) before heading over to my knitting party with the lovely erin, nicole, and friends. it was a blast, filled with ladies, food, sangria and knitting. and after all was said and done, and i dropped erin and nicole off at home, i got back home, grabbed some vietnamese, and settled into bed for some 30 for 30, some food, some organizing, and some list making. not as early to bed as i hoped, but better than normal!
hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

my (hectic holiday) weekend in summary

spending good quality face time with a few friends from church; a picture mikey (my sort of 2nd dad) holding a picture of mikey, holding a fish; wall to wall air mattresses - best way to live; celtics/raptors exhibition game; the boys (dad and jeff) embracing the holiday spirit; rice chopr on my walk home; photo inspiration for later... think i remember where i took this though?
Friday: once finished at work, I stopped briefly at the new loblaws at queen and portland (and yes, at joe. I couldn’t resist, AND managed to get an additional birthday present for my friend Stacie at the same time!). I then braved the rush hour traffic (which I can confidently say, increase my blood pressure and stress levels significantly, every time I do it) to get to dundas for a 7:30 holiday gathering. while I thought I would be late, I managed a 7:45 arrival time… not too shabby! stacie and nathan (parents of monkeys… and fantastic friends forever) had a few of us over for some appetizers, and general merriment – and it was so nice to see everyone… especially our friend dave who lives in montreal, who I haven’t seen in years (and keep promising to go visit while he’s living there… my list keeps growing). we all brought something, and ate WAY too much, drank amazing homemade cider (by Stacie, the most natural cook of cooks – she’s the one who inspires all my ‘basics’ cooking, i.e. the bagels I made). spent the night laughing so hard we could choke, and then finished with a general bible/religion discussion…. So nice to have friends who you can laugh with, and turn to philosophical discussions, on a dime. when we all realized it was midnight, we said our goodbyes, and I drove home to meet my parents and sister at our family friend’s house for their annual cookie exchange/Christmas party. had a great time – especially when the hosting couple (who are like another set of friends, or parents, to us) began gushing sentiments about their love for my parents… my sister and I were proud (we have kick ass parents). when we realized what time it was, I drove my sister’s friend home, and we were home to bed late.
saturday: woke up at 11 to head out to Toronto – after unpacking, and then repacking some exchange of goods for my apartment changes. – to meet with the ladies I donned with at Laurier (from such adventures as homecoming). was a little late, but nevertheless arrived to find Karli and Alex waiting for me at my apartment… after alex’s arrival from near the Manitoba border, where she teaches on a native reserve (so we rarely get to see her). We chatted, I got Alex some major food, and waited for leigh and elise to arrive… once they did, the rest of the day involved talking, eating Vietnamese food, talking, youtube videos, talking, drinking our customary bambino, talking, 'Christmas Vacation', talking, and wall to wall air mattresses. It was another late night (4am. Again. Worst), but so worth the time, and the laughs.
sunday: woke up at 9 for most of the ladies to take off – elise and leigh had to be back in Ottawa for 2, and they had to hit the road… and karli had a family Christmas gathering… so once we said adieu, alex and I spent the morning reading outpost magazines, talking about travelling, and what we hope for the future (it was a heavy weekend for convos). We then trekked to the subway, where alex went her way to meet up with her friend, and I headed down to union station to meet my dad, sister, and sister’s friend for the celtics/raptors exhibition game. celtics - my team – were in a rough way, with garnett hurt, rondo hurt, green having just been called out for the season, and pierce not playing due to injury. As a result, it was a pretty exciting game at the end, with the raptors missing a shot with a scramble under the net at the buzzer, and the Celtics winning by 1. I can’t emphasize enough how happy I am that the NBA season is on. Then headed back home, did some shopping, and went over to my friend’s place for mexican madness… our ritual. Spent the night eating amazing Mexican food, and more talking. amazing. walked home, and met with denver to discuss music, and our plans for big things. including a band.
Hope everyone was able to smash in as much visiting as I was this weekend – lots of parties and socializing everyone?
i'll leave you with these 2 things... my new list of favourite music, from denver and my convo, and one of my favs - garnett - taking the place on my list of new trashtalkers who will appease my need for trashtalking, now that reggie is gone (love that #4 moment in that video)...

my weekend in summary

I played it pretty calm this weekend… which was a much needed break for my body.
a little craft and paint; my mexican madness friend and our first ever pinata; work friend jill, and i (and the cane/pinata stick); jeff (jill's husband), jill, and jen (jill and jen from work), outside while attempting to localize the madness; sparklers; dave
Friday: after a week of house-sitting for Kelly, I went to her place for some last minute tidy, and to pick up some of my stuff. i then headed back home to clean and get ready to go out to TIFF. My friend picked me up, and we drove downtown for some coffee, and then got in line for our movie. Went to see “Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best”…. And encountered the same atmospheric molecules as THE Andrew McCarthy. Also got to see THE Michael Weston (love him), shooter mcgavin (who cares what his real name is), and a few other no name actors (slap me on the wrist if they aren’t no namers). Since I’m the TIFF goer who barely knows the name of a movie before she shows up, I was pretty pleased with the outcome. I’ll write a ‘review’ (who am I kidding – I am not a critic)… find a real one here. then, drove home, and ventured to ‘red light’ on dundas for a drink. bumped into some friend’s friends on the way home… and didn’t get to bed until about 3:30.
Saturday: slept the day away, and literally spent the entire day alone – painted, made some long overdue bracelets that I’ve been looking at for over a month, stamped up some thackeray’s vanity tags, and then finished while drinking beer with my landlord. Him and I decided we needed to avoid making bad decisions, so we would stay within the vicinity of the house, and that way we would only make bad decisions together. That turned around quickly, when my landlords friends invited him out (and I wasn’t allowed to come, since he didn’t want to bring me within 10 feet of his woman hungry friends). I picked up pizza from pizzeria libretto (still upset that my waiter crush likes men.... *sigh), and brought it to kelly’s place to welcome them home, and dropped him off along the way. Sat with Kelly and her manfriend Tyler, ate pizza, watched Jackass 3D (rest in peace ryan dunn), and talked about their vacation. For the record… I also love bam margera. He’s my boyfriend. I then went home, and fought all urges to visit the various places I was invited, and instead got into bed at 11:30, and watched city of men.
Sunday: woke up late (again), and went to run errands before my friend picked me up for Mexican Madness. He came to get me, and we procured a piñata, the food for the evening, and then met some other friends at his place. Mexican Madness was a huge success – bigger than ever! Ended up walking home around 11pm, and got to bed a little later than I should have, but not before making plans for the week with a friend, and solidly booking the entire week…. Again. Oops.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

my weekend in summary

this weekend was CRAZY hectic. i knew it would be, but i honestly had no idea how little time i would have to myself. my poor little apartment must be feeling so neglected... i will spend tonight. alone. cleaning. tidying. packing

My sister and I at harry potter – just mackin’ celebs; my baby sister and I are more or less the same person; some last minute hair prep for the night out; the bride and the sisters – twin towers; the groom calling; bridesmaids with the bride.
friday: my friend dave and I did our favourite thing – Mexican madness. We made hard shell tacos, and had margaritas, and just sat on his patio and talked. I forced him to help me make wedding necklaces as well – it was a great night! I cabbed home around 11:00, as I had to wake up early.
Saturday: met my sister and parents up at yorkdale mall’s movie theatre for a screening of Harry Potter. My dad works with an insurance company who holds a screening every year, so we’ve been able to see harry potter without lines, the day after it comes out. After the movie – which was great – we shopped a bit for my cousin’s kids, as he and his wife were over from Azerbaijan, and my cousin in law (?) always brings us goodies… my mom felt it would be polite. My sister and I then drove back to my place, where we chose outfits, painted our nails, and watched sex and the city until mid afternoon – our attempt at getting in for mani/pedi’s at the super cheap place around the corner from me was thwarted since we didn’t have enough time.
We drove out to the hotel where the bachelorette was going to start, and checked in. I don’t even want to get started on Fairmont Hotel’s ineffectiveness in their booking – I booked 2 – 2 double beds rooms, and was told when I arrived that my reservation was for 2 rooms, and my bed choice was only a preference. Had I known this, I would have not booked at the Fairmont at all. Through some magical talking, and some very patient front desk staff who were required to manage these incomprehensible rules, we managed to get a suite for all of us, instead of 2 rooms. Thank goodness for my patience/firmness, and their understanding. However, Fairmont will be receiving a letter from me, and perhaps a phone call from a few others. Nevertheless, once all was said and done, we had a great night – ordered food into the hotel, got ready all together, and headed out to Club V for bottle service, skip the line, VIP, the whole nine yards. Had a great night out – despite a hard fall on the dance floor. Got back to the hotel late, after a full night of dancing.
Sunday: woke up fairly early, as my sister had to head out for work Sunday morning. Then went back to sleep for a bit. Once we woke up, cleaned up, and checked out, we headed out to eggspectation for breakfast. Before I could sit down, my friend msgd me to remind me that she was in town. I managed to meet up with her for lunch and we had a great chat. I love hanging out with Alex as she just puts things in perspective. She’s travelling to Ireland shortly, and wanted some input from me about places she should visit. Once she had to take off, I shopped for a few necessities for my trip to Vancouver, and then went home. Showered, cleaned up, and then went to simply hang out with friends. It was a later night than expected, but worth it.
I’m paying for the late nights this week, but how can I complain when it was spent with so many good friends??
How did you spend your weekend?

my (delayed... again) weekend in summary.

work has been so crazy busy, and i have had full nights, and haven't had a chance to put together my memories from the past weekend!
Lots of friend time this weekend – despite the rain!
photos: computer time with myself; at the bar with friends for Laura's bday, and 3L kegs; waving bye on the subway; the beginnings of a very good/bad night (that bottle was gone by the end); tons of jewelry making; our spread; soft tacos galore; my friend amanda and i on the way home from the bar; more jewelry time on sunday.
Friday: got home from work, and took my computer right outside to enjoy the sun – researched art collectives (as my friend and I are on our way to starting our own), and enjoyed the last moments of sunshine for basically the entire weekend. I then went inside, had some dinner, and prepared to meet friends for a birthday. Headed up the subway line to meet up with a few people for Laura’s birthday. Great night meeting one of Laura’s friends from teacher’s college, and another friend who I had met before, but hadn’t had a chance to really get to know well.
Saturday: woke up fairly early, and cleaned my apt a bit. Then went out to attempt to get a joe fresh target breast cancer tshirt while also accomplishing my groceries for my Mexican night, and for the week. I prepped some food, and then my friend dave picked me up for our Mexican madness that we’ve become so good at! Margaritas, soft tacos, tons of amazing food, and so nice to hang out with him. Then a few more people joined us, and we went to the beir market for some drinks. As usual, closed the bar down, and then headed to dave’s – and then I cabbed home from there. I wound up with 30 beer coasters at the end of the night to my name. apparently the bar tender told me to take one of each.
Sunday: woke up VERY late, and just lounged. Went and got greasy Chinese food (after my craving for 10 for $3 samosa’s was destroyed by the fact that the place wasn’t open on Sundays), and sat. watched tv, and made lots and lots of jewelry. Nice, relaxing day.
Hope everyone stayed (sort of) dry!
