andy warhol

andy is my homeboy.

"what has andy warhol ever done anyways?"
Pfff… let me tell you.

- propelled the pop art movement to international fame
- hung with his homies - hard. Bohos, aristocrats, celebs and scholars. Decided nothing was hip enough for his homies, and created "the factory" (insert sienna millar film here).
- originated in commercial art, and transformed the border between commercial and fine art into a blur… much like his sexuality (ba-dum ching!). Never have I ever liked Coke, as much as when he described the sociecomonic harmony between coke and culture:
"What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coca Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca Cola, and just think, you can drink Coca Cola, too. A coke is a coke and no amount of money can get you a better coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the cokes are the same and all the cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it."
- shot by a feminist* - that alone makes his history as a avant-garde artist and socialite inpressionable.
- coined the term '15 minutes of fame'
- criticized for being a "business artist" managed to wrangle more publicity for a man who was - by the late 70's and 80's - living off of his reputation. Selling to an America looking to buy. Alternatively - a genious who exploited the very society who upheld him as one of the greatest. Exploitation of a society who made business out of exploiting. Beauty. - nagated sexuality, and still managed to exploit it. Sexual controversy - so salesworthy.
- volunteered religiously in his hometown - andy's my homeboy.
- Deeply religious - felt it was a private venture. Analysis would point to a new movement of religion - a real time religion which allows it's members to question, explore, and mitigate tradition with the world's events. He was too private to share this with many people, but his relationships were analytical in nature, thus allowing religion to be explored. Many attribute his nephew's being a preist to Andy's teachings - he financed this study as well
- designed multiple rolling stones covers, as well as commissioned to paint mick jagger.
- his death and disaster series focused on tragedy as spectacle.- his estate - at his direction - was left to create a foundation for the advancement of the arts. Auctioned estate pieces left $20 million with which to do this. The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts was founded in 1987 as per his request.
- he created people. Edie Sedgwick to name one. How many people can say they 'created' people??
- buried in a paisley tie and sunglasses.
