spaces i adore.... and want

i've been tossing and turning with some apartment changes recently - my beading workspace is not the most ideal (aka. i make jewelry while sitting on the ground, hunched over - which is AMAZING for someone with a broken back), i have a lot of paperwork that needs to be hidden, and my walls are not the best for hanging things like shelves.
so recently i've spent much time pouring over interiors - even more than normal, if you can imagine - for ideas on how to store things, and how to design a space that works, doesn't feel to crammed, and doesn't compromise my love for things that make me happy all over the place.
This space – a redesigned barn in Norfolk, East England – takes what most people turn their noses up at (particle board), and highlights it’s most natural beauty. And I love how raw it is. They’ve created the perfect mix of design, storage, and nature.
and this space, though similar, uses a different method of clean wood. Culminated into a beautiful, natural and bright space. everything in it - the furniture, the storage, the 'decorative' items - are all useful, practical, and not intrusive. though they've mixed varying colours and types of wood, that normally would not be pieced together, it gives a sense of haphazard cohesiveness. i love this.
this space is completely ideal - perhaps (dare i say) my dream home…. taken an old garage (point for being in a space that was used to fix cars. one major step in winning me over), and turned it into a wonderful, open, airy and industrial space. i adore the height of the space, the inset shelving, and the clean use of wall space for hanging things. conversely, i LOVE that they didn't turn the space into a pretentious area - they left chipping paint, rusted awnings, exposed brick without the yuppy connotations, and the beauty of nature growing between the cracks. it's, i think, my most perfect mix. the furniture they chose is perfect - bulky, substantial, and yet minimalist, and they've not overdone anything. that, i love.
the perfect desk! the home of Jennifer from a merry mishap is perfectly curated – by surrounding herself with items that inspire her creativity, without it looking cluttered or overrun with ‘things’. She makes jewellery too, so I think I’m drawn to her creative space on a 'jewellery makers' level. collections of things, in groupings, mismatched frames displaying treasures, and simplicity. and man... though i'd love a very basic desk, i need the drawer space to hide things (like 10 containers worth of jewellery findings, beads, vintage chain and so on, and so on).
though this space is far too heavy on the black for my liking (in the other photos of the tour), but I adore the storage spaces, such as the bar cart, and the old metal chests with things displayed like art. they've done the space perfectly, and this photo captures my most favourite parts of it. in incoporating vintage into a space, it's SO essential to ensure everything else around it is clean, tidy, and taken care of - the while walls are a huge part of this. they do this perfectly. (and man.... those vintage glass bottles... *sigh. not to mention, i'm fairly confident that pillow was invented for me).
oh. And I want a fireplace. Too much? K, fine. what about just a photo of one?
so. Things to do:
- Find rollout drawers for under my bed (the things I’ve stored under there are embarrassing – and in the most unorganized of states)
- Shelving in my living room (combined with a desk?)
- A desk. Open to suggestions. (FLOATING WALL LENGTH DESK. ok. now i'm just getting ridiculous. but a girl can dream, right?)
- A true night stand – I currently have a stool with a silver tray. And I love it, but it shows off all my private things (which i'm sure you can use your imagination for). I wouldn't mind redoing a vintage nightstand, and painting it white.
- Organize my stupid filing. I hate filing and paper work.
