This weekend was good to take my mind off of things… |
Saturday: woke up raring to go. After a huge breakfast (in true shea cottage style), we did some chores for the annual corn roast, and headed out to the coe hill fair.
Every year, as a family, we meet up and attend the fair. We make ourselves sick on carnival rides, eat fair fries, look at the agriculture, and walk around long enough to remind ourselves that we don't belong. And every year my dad buys a $5 pair of sunglasses because he forgets his own. This year was no exception. To any of these things.
We then headed home, and husked the dozens of cobs of corn for the corn roast. While everyone set up the last minute things, I went on a run… I only managed to hit 5k in 45 min - those roads are TOUGH! Good prep for the trail runs I want to sign up for this/next year.
We had a huge dinner, and then got the corn and pop ready for the corn roast. I had one cob of corn, and spent the rest of the night not feeling well. Sat inside, reading magazines, and chatting with anyone who felt sorry for me.
Sunday: The fam woke up (EARLY), and since I was sleeping on the couch, I had no choice… we spent the day on the couch, on the dock, tubing, and talking. So nice to catch up with family. On our way home, we stopped to look at a house that my parents are thinking about for their retirement. Yes. Parents retiring. Crazy. Then my dad drove me home, and we had a huge heart to heart. It involved boys, business, crying, and let's just say I hope that at least one person saw, because it would have been a hilariously awkward situation wasted. My dad is really worried about me, and refuses to accept me being in a low place. His kind words were hard to hear… but he didn't realize. He did share some things that I'm glad I heard… and of course, with what little relationship we had when I was younger, these are leaps and bounds. I got home around 9:45, threw a load of laudnry in, went for a run, washed some dishes, and went to bed. Exhausted, and still not mentally clear.farm equipment, and goats - just another day at the coe hill fair.
*edit: received this email from my dad today: "that was a great conversation we had in the car the other night. take care". that's about as real as he gets. gotta love him - he knew what it meant.
