movie fan - last house on the left

People think it's funny that I'm a (not so) closet horror movie fan.
At three, four, five, and up I used to sit with my grandma, and watch old movies, such as 'The Changling', and 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane'. We used to cuddle up, and laugh our way through. She would read me ghost stories which would later fuel my roomate and I in first year, looking up haunted places in Ontario, and hoping we could go visit.
I dove into crappy horror in my teens, just to fuel my need for a quick scare (it's akin to a drug for me!) - and it's been a sick twisted relationship ever since. Classics, such as Halloween, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre gave way to teen movies like 'I know what you did last summer' and 'Scream'. Very few have managed to hit the old style nail on the head with the mix of psychological digs and suspense that the classics did. Hitchcock is sorely missed, as well as Roman Polanski who hasn't made a good movie in a while (I wonder why… *omnimous eye roll).
I digress. I watched the remake of the translation "Last House on the Left" last night… Wes Craven is a horror God. Director Dennis Iliadis did a great job to follow his lead (from 1972), and prepared a good old fashion psychological scare. Obviously not as psychologically scary as they came in the past, but really connecting with that evil we all have inside of us (like Dexter has done lately… love love love Dexter). The story which has been remade a few times of a daughter savagley attacked, and left for dead, and the gang of killers finding refuge in her parents home. What would a parent do? They do it. Brilliant. I do like the 2009 story a bit better, but I would like to see the old Jungfrukällan (1960), by Ingmar Bergman which is the original.
A for entertainment value. I tried to find 'Orphan' to watch, but was pleasantly surprised with this one. Plus - it had Tony Goldwyn, Spencer Treat Clark, and Aaron Paul. Perfect!
