to read and watch

Since I've been going through some changes, 'coming of age' stories have been resonating quite loudly for me…
I read "the awakening" and "all the sad young literary men" - both of which allowed me to read what I was thinking for the first time in a long time.
I won't say much, other than to say there are themes in these that don't mean much, or mean too much to me. Either way, they grab at a part of the human condition - the lonliness and loss that everyone can feel once, twice, or three times in their life, despite being surrounded by people.
My friend said to me last week "it sounds like you're having one of those quarter life crisis'…" and I couldn't agree more. Where to go, what to do, who to do it with. It's all too confusing for one mind to handle - no matter how much sociology I take in, it doesn't seem to be enough to handle reality's cruelty. On a side note… I will say that I bought all the sad young literary men, on a bargain table for $4... and purely for the cover - and yet again, my rule of thumb (matte cover, weird graphics) seemed to have proven true.
Pretty good (and accurate) review here
Movies that also appeased that part of me longing for a little more right now…
Up in the Air (which I guess isn't a coming of age story, since it's in regards to a 40 something man - but it still meant something powerful)
An Education
It was truly 'an education' that hit me in the right place at the right time*. Apparently, they call it "coming of age" and maybe I'm attracted to it because I'm "coming of age" (that's a nice way of saying "pre mid-life, mid-life crisis").
*not JUST because of peter sarsgaard.
Just some thoughts, when reflecting on life.
