Calling those with talent or some capacity on a sewing machine!
The June Callwood Centre for Women and Families, formerly Jessie’s Centre for Teenagers, is looking for some volunteers to help make baby wraps. Baby wraps are a length of fabric parents use to keep their baby close, so they can travel comfortably by public transportation.
The June Callwood Centre for Women and Families is a multi-service resource for pregnant and parenting teenagers who are aged 18 or younger, and their children. They provide a variety of programs and services to meet the special needs of young families - Intended as a model agency, June's Centre delivers its services through a combination of staff, volunteers, collaboration with community agencies and a proactive profile regarding issues affecting young parents and their children.
June's Centre is located in downtown Toronto between two of Toronto's largest public housing projects - Regent Park and Moss Park. Although many teenage parents who live in the area use June's Centre, a greater number of teens travel from all over the city to attend programs. Their building is six-stories - two floors for June's Centre, and the remaining 4 floors which hold 16 two and three bedroom apartments for a mix of teen families and older parents. The housing is permanent and subsidized according to the tenant's income.
