my weekend in summary

this weekend was a great reminder to live life to its absolute fullest... you never know.
5 girls + birthday celebrations + prosseco + pizza = perfection; denver cooking up a storm; my new reading material (kiss me, by andrew pyper); the rock game - father/daughter night; making nicole's bday earrings; my kind of party - boones in a bathtub; sunday destress
Friday: rushed home from work, and got ready to meet my friends for dinner at pizzeria libretto. Met Nicole’s roommate Shannon at reposado, where we waited – then Lindsay joined, and then Erin and Nicole. We all did a birthday shot, and headed over to Libretto for pizza, calamari, beer, and prosseco to celebrate Nicole’s bday. Unfortunately I got bad news – my uncle had pretty suddenly passed away. To avoid putting a damper on the girls for the rest of the night, when they went to Nicole’s for further wine drinking, I went home, crawled into bed, and fell asleep to ‘sons of anarchy’.
Saturday: woke up pretty early, and in true jamie ‘coping’ fashion, I spent the morning being extremely productive: cleaned my entire bed room, including stripping my entire bed down and redoing it. Cleaned my bathroom from top to bottom, cleaned my kitchen, and scrubbed my entire stove. I was done by about 11, and headed out to do some errands – picking up materials for Nicole’s bday present, as well as dropping empties off, and grabbing ingredients for lunch for Denver and I. met with Denver to make a huge lunch – of pesto pasta with veggies, and vegan chicken on top – hanging out with Denver is always great. Always. I then rushed *and was late, due to the major flooding delays at Union Station, to the Toronto Rock (lacrosse) game with my dad. He dropped me off at home, after the Rock’s crushing loss to the Washington team, and I got ready for the party, and finished up Nicole’s earrings, and hopped on the subway to head downtown. Walked into a party and a half – I always love getting to meet new people, and hanging out with people who are outside of my friend circle. Spent tons of time with my friend Katie and her lovely boyfriend Greg, chatting all night. After a few escapades – stealing smartfood, hanging with Shannon’s cat, lots of bathroom hangout time – Katie and Greg and I cabbed home (and played a game in the cab on the way home – who knew, cabs have quiz games on the back of their headrests now!). then headed over to ‘the bar’ and hung out with Elliott, Bre, and Jason. Finally got home to bed (WAY TOO LATE – I need to stop doing this to myself), and crashed as soon as my head hit the pillow.
Sunday: woke up WAY earlier than I wanted, but couldn’t get back to bed. so, in opposition to the morning before, I was the least productive I could be. Made breakfast, and sat in bed, eating and watching sons of anarchy. Had a great phone chat with my dear friend from university, Art, and then made some late lunch. Met up with a friend later in the day, and explored Kensington market – where he’d never been! – and bought some food for dinner. Spent the rest of the night making dinner, listening to music, roasting (vegan) marshmallows, and talking.
In light of my wonderful uncle passing, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking of moments passed – and please, remember everyone… be good to one another, and spend as much time with those you love as you can.
A part of my uncle’s obituary:
he peacefully passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the age of 52. Loving son, special brother and chum of his sisters Catherine, Chris and Karen. Adoring and adored Uncle, and Greatest Uncle his great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his other (second) families at Soogoma, Community Living Algoma and Tendercare. His passions included his family and his friends, the Soo Greyhounds, sports, both playing and watching, music especially country, movies, dancing and of course flirting with the girls. Howard was also a proud Special Olympian.

the perfect monochromatic mix

wendy, wendy, wendy.
chicago born, NYC established, wendy mixes music and style... she began by selling her clothing in the 2 record stores that she worked in - and then moved to opening a store in NYC little italy/chinatown area. she has since successfully run an online store, opened more shops in brooklyn, LA and san fran. she has worked with multiple artists and organizations, as well as collaborating with various other clothing lines - such as wrangler, and the simplicity sewing company with some patterns. she's also managed a great hybrid career, by publishing a book series, and she works her days, being inspired by the sights and sounds of NYC.
according to her website: "Wendy Mullin draws inspiration from pop culture and music, from her personal travels, from her Midwestern upbringing, and from classic and contemporary film, art, and literature.".
you continue to do this to me... perfect lines, great shapes, simple patterns, great material... all things combined into the most perfectly simple and stunning clothing line. clothes that hover on the 'work/every day' line... perfectly. i could wear her stuff to work, and pull it off casually out with friends. THESE are the kind of clothes that everyone should own.
love wendy. she does good stuff. i know i am mocked constantly for my monochromatic wardrobe - however, wendy makes it classy and fun. and just a little bit different.
check out her stuff. it's awesome.

just some thoughts on music.

not much to say... other than i just wanted to share some of my favourite lines from music this week.
'at once I knew I was not magnificent. strayed above the highway aisle (jagged vacance thick with ice). I could see for miles, miles, miles'
- holocene, bon iver
'for the first time, there is no mercy in your eyes. And the cold wind is hitting my face and you're gone. and you're walking away. and I am helpless, sometimes. wishing's just no good. cause you don't see me like I wish you would. cause you never were, and you never will be mine'
- be mine, robyn
'goodbye, my almost lover. goodbye, my hopeless dream. i'm trying not to think about you. can't you just let me be? so long, my luckless romance. my back is turned on you. i should've known you'd bring me heartache. almost lovers always do'
- almost lover, a fine frenzy
'if you don't want me to leave. then don't push me away. you'd rather blow out the lights. you can watch it all fade. but i'm going nowhere. i'm gonna stay. when you just wanna fight. when you're closing your eyes. 'cause you don?t wanna love me.'
- if you don't wanna love me, james morrison
'i took you by the hand. know that even with your doubts, it's ok. take into account that it's not about to change. who knows, who cares. you could let it down. jump into the river baby. easy as it sounds. it's never quite as easily done. the current has us now, it's ok. take into account that it's all about to change. who knows, who cares?'
- who knows who cares, local natives
to listen. i'll share. i'm nice like that.

oof. for the record, the 'be mine' version is the one done by ellie goulding (LOEV HER) and erik hassle. want to give credit where credit's due!
