'the depth of a thousand shutters'

i think it's fair to say, that these photos from alessio bolzoni speak for themselves. such a perfect blend of art, and styling... the grey magazine shoot reminds me so much of the virgin suicides. and that - to me - is perfect. a fantastic eye for detail that's not limited to innate objects... sometimes the movement of a subject's body is the most challenging part. alessio gets that. and that, i love.
peruse. click link. enjoy. i will do my best to pass a napkin through the screen to assist with the drooling.

'he was told you are more than ordinary. up and go to the places you will go to'

just simply adore gabriel rios. singer, singwriter, and fascinating human.
he's huge in Belgium – where he lived for a period of time…
he successfully combines rock, salsa (ish) hip-hop (ish), and live music – guitars, keys, etc. he’s somehow combined all of these things into a unique music, that is still so relatable.
it helps that he’s dashingly handsome, too.
it's also a very well known fact that if i could listen to one song for the rest of my life, it would be hallelujah... and mostly because it's beautiful, no matter who sings it. and lo and beholf, gabriel did a version of it with natalia, as a haiti fundraiser a while back.
his videos are perfection. he’s a travel bug, and he manages to mix performance art, with videography, and just plain amazing music.
I dare you to listen to broad day light, and try not to dance. it's perfection.
back in the old days, tight like a fight | used to hang with the devil in the broad day light | we had a route, a walkabout | until we had a row, a kind of falling out | he showed me the low | showed me the down | called it the happy low down | we used to crack some tunes with a guy named Loyd | Loyd still got them polaroids | broad day light | broad day light | stop climaxing, you got your fight | leaving him alone in the broad day light | he might get it on on his own and start building a throne | out of worn out razors | look at you shaking | you can t find his plight | got you scared of ghosts in the dead of night | while you are making up stories trying to make it ok | he ll be bringing them in to let them out and play | in the broad day light | broad day light | leaving me alone in the broad day light | in the broad day light | please don't leave me alone | leaving me alone in the broad day light | you ll get your money, you ll get your night | just leave me alone up in the broad day light | I need some shit of my own, I need a throne | not them razors | and who you think you are screaming Hollywood burn? | if you really want to stop it then burn your sperm | cause this here be going on until its not and then a little more

my weekend in summary

this weekend of 'relaxing' did involve lots of downtime (thank goodness), while being productive... didn't pack much, though i wanted to, but that's ok. filled my weekend with time with erin (my landlord).
enjoying the real sports menu quotes (listen - any restaurant/bar that has sports quotes in their menus?? i'm so there) 'my greatest strength is that i have no weakness'; erin's fave 'i am the greatest; said that before i even knew i was'; my fave (and appropriate life motto, apparently) 'if everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough; wedding jewelry production in full effect; inside cocktail bar... enjoying the 'ambiance'; the small sign in the corner of the window; raptors lakers game on sunday afternoon; lakers trying to determine how to keep the raptors at bay; finished wedding pieces (finally!)
friday: I came home from work just ITCHING to go to the raptors game, as I knew they were playing the celtics. messaged my landlords, and sure enough, they were on board. headed down to the ACC, and since the worst nosebleeds in the arena were $29, said, 'no thanks' and went direct to real sports. got dynamite seats overlooking the huge wall sized tv screen on the second floor, and watched the game from there - drinking less-than-$10 beer, and had some good food. horrible service, AND hated watching the celtics lose to the raptors (of all teams), but still had a BLAST. then promptly headed back to our neck of the woods to our local. had a pretty mellow night, and headed home after a few drinks, and some hang outs with the owner and new bar tenders we'd never met before. home, and asleep before I could take my day clothes off (it was a long week).
saturday: after waking up FAR earlier than I wanted, I spent the day making wedding jewelry for a friend (that I promised myself I would finish by the end of the weekend), and cleaned up around the house. I also made my lunches for the week (which I'm telling myself I'm going to do every week, to save money, be more healthy, and save myself some time) and watched a TON of breaking bad - which, EVERYONE in the world should watch. amazing. english teachers everywhere can now use walter white as an example of a protagonist who you can hate. I then received a text from erin stating, 'I feel for maximum fun tonight. how do we attain that?' so, after making myself some dinner, mosied on to erin's place, where we ate dinner, had some drinks, and watched sex and the city. we decided on a dundas west bar crawl, and visited cocktail bar for the first time. it's a small little bar associated with the black hoof, that serves old style, well made cocktails, in a sort of beautiful version of a speakeasy. amazing tin roof, wonderful vintage glass fronted cabinets, amazing jazz playing the whole time we were there. prices were good, for well made cocktails, and we decided to stick around for a second. erin said decidedly that it was the best negroni she had ever had in Toronto. And THAT's a big deal. we then decided that instead of moving to a new bar, we'd visit our local, and get our favourite bartender - Elliot - to mix us something fancy. Elliott as always, made us happy. though a scuffle MAY have erupted as a result of our interaction with another patron, we ended the night well, and all headed home in the snow storm.
Sunday: woke up too early.... had my alarm set for 10, and woke up, unable to get back to sleep around 9. met my parents and some of their friends for brunch/lunch, and then went over to meet erin at the ACC for the raptors game against the lakers. probably one of the most exciting games I've ever been to - with a back and forth in the last 5 minutes... for the raptors! gainst the lakers! (the raptor's are NOT a lakers level team). when the game was over, I went home, and headed straight to the grocery store so I could fulfill my craving for a vegan poutine. finished my jewelry project for the weekend - mom's bday present, some valentine's day items to share with men at work, and the wedding jewelry I've been working on - and watched a ton of breaking bad. again. had dinner, and headed to bed after some half assed packing.
hope everyone had a GREAT weekend... and stayed warm and safe in the snow that we finally got! and i'll leave you with this... the name of our local - which, i have explained, changes its name nightly - the night after our escapade. which, in light of the evening previous, made me howl with laughter when i saw it. thank you elliott.
